I have been an attorney for 35 years but I recently changed my practice area to Estate Planning out of a desire to really help people and serve my clients in a meaningful way. My father died with just a will and it caused conflict with my siblings as he named me as executor but thee probate took over two years because my sister challenged the will and we had to negotiate with her. It was a lengthy process and it was public and costly.
My husband had paid $3000 for an estate plan but the lawyer never followed through with funding. It would have completely failed if anything had happened to him.
I just kept hearing these stories of people dying without an estate plan in place. I love the process I now employ because it is a better way to help people take care of their loved ones after their death or incapacity. Its not about the documents, its about the relationship with the lawyer and I employ a heart centered approach to estate planning where I listen to my clients and let them choose their plan after being educated.
